Funny how the gym is always packed at the beginnin Funny how the gym is always packed at the beginning of the year, and then it quiets down again a few months later. I have to admit, I haven't long been back at the gym... and I'm not one for New Year’s resolutions. For me it's theme words or yearly intentions and activating values. This year my theme word is ACTION. Whether taking action in my Body Mind Food Coach business, my own health goals, actioning projects or ideas I've had that have been sitting dormant, and it even extends to lights, camera, action! 😘 What would it feel like to follow through on the goals you set for yourself? Not just for a few weeks, but for the long haul? I'm all for SMART goals and accountability sure, AND... Emotion drives behavior change. Connecting your goals to what actually matters to you and what's important about X goal? And what's important about that? And what's important about that? Gets to the emotion of it... Keep drilling down until you can't go any further. What's important about that? And why now? What's so important about doing it now? What's at stake? Where will you be in five years time if you don't do it now? Then, how will it feel to complete that goal? What does life look like having completed that goal? What does that goal give you? And to get to your goal, make sure the path involves something you like... For example, if you want to move more but you hate going to the gym, the chances of sticking with it is low. Lastly, this is one many folks miss... How does your goal align with what you value most? Because if it's misaligned, it also has a low survival rate! I value freedom, so for all the years I tried to restrict and diet - it wasn't sustainable because I didn't want to be told what I could and couldn't eat. So, when you connect your goals to your values and emotions, they become more than a ‘should'... they become something worth showing up for. What are your thoughts? 😘

Which do you want to choose - it doesn't matter or Which do you want to choose - it doesn't matter or it doesn't matter? Let me explain. There's two options... 1️⃣ The option of... f*ck it it doesn't matter I don't care I'm going to eat it all... Then physically feel like sh*t afterwards, and then mentally feel like sh*t for doing it. 2️⃣ Or the options of... it doesn't matter that I have sh*tloads of Holiday chocolate and lollies (candy) in my house I can have a piece, or two, when I want without eating the whole f*cking lot! Which world would you rather live in? What if I told it is possible to choose option 2️⃣. I used to feel like I could only choose option 1️⃣. That sneaky little voice in my head would convince me every time that eating it all right away was the best way to go. It made up all sorts of excuses like... ⛔ You have to eat it to get rid of it otherwise it'll be too much of a temptation. ⛔ If you finish them all who cares No one will know and you can get more. ⛔ It's just today you can start being good tomorrow. ⛔ You've already had KFC so you might as well just have the chocolate. ⛔ You deserve to indulge in these treats You've had a really hard year. Here's the thing. That voice isn't actually ours - it's our saboteur. And we don't have to listen to it. What does your saboteur tell you? Our thoughts (and saboteurs) are like passengers on a bus. They come and go. Some are nice. Some are pretty nasty. We can't always get rid of them, AND we don't have to let them drive the bus. Mindset is a huge component of the work I do with clients. Sending you all love. ♥️🎁💚🎄 I'll be honest Christmas is a hard time of year for me which I'm sure some of you may relate to. Grief is a big one, and not being able to be with my family overseas... yet! Being an adoptee adds complex layers of emotions too. I used to drink and eat the holidays away. Now, even though it's still a challenging time of year, I can acknowledge and sit with uncomfortable feelings. I give myself compassion and grace validating my feelings, sometimes even having a big cry to release, and remind myself these feelings are temporary. Then I support myself through things like above INSTEAD of stuffing my face... And sometimes I may decide food or something else IS what I want. The other day I even started mindlessly eating a bunch of mini chocolates... 5 in I realised what I was doing and said to myself... I don't need this - this isn't serving me. Whereas previously I would have kept going anyway with a f*ck it it's the holidays and then it would have been multiple bags!!! Instead, I stopped myself with kindness and compassion... asked myself what do I actually need? We can over consume for many different reasons from coping with complex emotions, to a holiday binge culture, to hormonal imbalances. So what do you really need this holiday season? If it's rest, time out, or whatever it is, how can you honour that? 😘 💝 You're worth it. xx

The holiday season can be both beautiful and chall The holiday season can be both beautiful and challenging. Often it's full of “shoulds” when maybe it's a time to focus on what truly matters… being around people who fill your cup, doing things that bring you joy, and gifting love in meaningful ways. The sourdough starter I used to make this loaf was a gift from my best friend. She also gave me her recipe for the sourdough bread. This loaf isn't perfect (just like life), but it’s a reminder of the precious time we spent together in Sydney, Australia after so long apart. These moments mean more than anything you can buy. So here's to celebrating what matters most - including yourself. Say yes to what feels right for you, and remember, it’s okay to say no to what doesn’t. What are you going to do to look after yourself this season? Remember you’re worth it. 😘
I say something most health coaches and medical pr I say something most health coaches and medical professionals don’t believe… There is no “good” or “bad” food - there is food that serves us, and food that doesn’t serve us. Sure, those “not-so-body-serving” foods affect your efforts, and your mindset can make an impact too. When you label foods it can create a shame cycle - especially when you eat the foods you “shouldn’t” have. Shoulds = Shame. Shame is Sh1t! Shaming yourself elevates cortisol. When cortisol levels are high, it raises your blood sugar, triggering a spike in insulin. Elevated insulin makes it harder for your body to burn fat… and that’s even when you're eating whole real, nutritious foods. So when I do go out to eat, I choose to dine at restaurants and cafes that make everything from scratch! We had an amazing time up in Auckland last week. And to celebrate my PREKURE Health Coach of the Year 2024 win, my wife treated us to an incredible experience at @ahirestaurant ! We opted for the New Zealand Food Story, and savoured every mouthful. All of the staff were outstanding, particularly our server Lynn and sommelier Kit. From oysters, to wallaby tartare, avocado paua “toast”, scampi with burger sauce, tuna with sorbet, crayfish with horopito, octopus, venison, tangelo “fruju”, and an extra special surprise dessert. I didn’t “fall off the wagon”. I didn’t have to start again on Monday. I chose to enjoy a beautiful meal out to celebrate and it didn’t “derail” me. And you can do it too. It's a pinch yourself moment for sure... As a neu It's a pinch yourself moment for sure... As a neurospicy adoptee, and survivor, who struggled with food, body image, and addiction for most of her life, and who for so many years had such a hard time finding her way in life... Let alone figuring out who she actually was or what she wanted to do...  to now feeling like she's exactly where she's meant to be...  and then... to be honoured in such a way... I feel so freaking proud. Proud of how far I've come and the mahi I do, and so proud of my clients. This is what the Health and Wellness industry isn' This is what the Health and Wellness industry isn't talking about… 👉🏼 Even health professionals struggle with body image, eating habits, and the pressure to look a certain way. 👈🏼 The Health and Wellness industry sells us the idea that thin equals healthy… that appearance is what matters most. But it’s not true. How do I know? ▶️ Because I was one of them, over 20 plus years ago, with an eating disorder - when I looked “healthy”. ▶️ Now, at a bigger size, my biomarkers are the best they’ve ever been because I’m truly caring for my body, mind, and puku (belly). ▶️ I currently have health professionals as clients who are struggling with the pressure from the industry. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. We don’t talk about this! Health professionals aren’t immune to the unrealistic pressures we work to help others overcome. These standards are hurting people. Health professionals are driven, knowledgeable, and passionate, but there is even more pressure to look “perfect” and “be thin”. Some enter the industry hoping that working in this space will also help them sort out their own health challenges. What we don’t realise at the time, is it's not only having the knowledge, we need support too. So, let’s get real. Health isn’t about your size, obsessively “clean” eating, or looking like a fitness ad. True health is about what your body can do for you, and how you nourish not only your body but also your mind. And true health means different things for different people. What does true health mean for you? For me it’s: 💥 Having energy to work, play, and connect 😴 Restorative sleep 💃🏼 Moving freely and being able to do what I love 🥦 Eating whole real food because it fuels me, not because I have to fit an image. True health helps you to feel capable and confident, to be able to be your authentic self, to practice self-care, recognise your worth, and take care of yourself first so you can better take care of others. It’s time to change our priorities. If you’re ready to let go of the look of health and live it instead, stick around. Because we can redefine what health means, together. I had an incredible date night out with my wife last night - a 6 course collab degustation at @grazewinebar featuring @janobistro . And our server Stina curated a perfect drinks match list for us which was incredible. Having a non-diet holistic approach can support you to enjoy food and drink experiences without the guilt and shame... and in turn help you shift away from emotional eating. So, if you're looking for a health coach who's going to put you on a diet, tell you not to eat certain foods, or make you calorie count, you're in the wrong place.  What people think a non-diet approach looks like:  ❌ Eating everything and anything whenever. ❌ Never caring about nutrition. ❌ Giving up on “weight management” altogether. ❌ Always indulging in cravings. ❌ Not caring about health at all. ❌ Completely rejecting any structure around food. ❌ Succumbing to eating to soothe emotions. What a non-diet approach actually looks like:  💚 Focusing on foods that are nutrient dense. 💚 Focusing on ways to measure health success without just numbers on a scale. 💚 Creating space for cravings with mindfulness and intention. 💚 Understanding that food is only one aspect of overall health and wellbeing. 💚 Having structure around meals without being rigid and honoring your hunger and fullness cues. 💚 Finding multiple ways to care for emotions beyond food. Not following a diet doesn’t mean ‘anything goes’... it means being mindful about taking care of your body, mind, and puku (belly) in a way that is nourishing, serving, and sustainable for you. And sometimes what's nourishing is connecting with the special people in your life over delicious food and drink.
Ever find yourself doom-scrolling late at night, h Ever find yourself doom-scrolling late at night, hoping it’ll help you unwind? Guilty here. 🙋‍♀️ Here’s the thing… staying up glued to your phone is a trap. It tricks your brain into thinking it’s “relaxing” when really it’s revving up your mind and messing with your sleep. After my trip to Sydney, my sleep’s been a bit out of whack. And if I’m being honest... the habit of late-night scrolling has snuck back in… especially when posting my stories and walk & talks! 😅 It’s easy to get stuck in the cycle of exhaustion... even when we know what helps us feel good! Can you relate? So, this week I’m focusing on supporting myself in small ways. I’m leaning into my evening rituals: 🧘🏼‍♀️ Reflecting on wins from the day. 🙏🏼 Tuning in to what I'm thankful for. 🛌🏼 Breathing through my nose to help shift into my parasympathetic nervous system and get ready for sleep. And I’m also slowly nudging my bedtime earlier, bit by bit. Rest isn’t just about sleep… it’s an act of selfcare. It's looking after our health and wellbeing. And sleep isn’t just about waking up rested… it’s about restoring our whole system: body, mind, and puku. It balances emotions, supports decision-making, and gives us the energy we need to show up for ourselves. We don’t have to get it perfect… we just want to be intentional. Years ago, I felt stuck. I was overworked, overwh Years ago, I felt stuck. I was overworked, overwhelmed, and over it. Comfort food and alcohol were my go-tos, and I was constantly working harder for others than looking after myself. My body? It was sick and I was struggling… I felt like I was in my 80s when I was only in my 40s! I knew what I needed to do, but I just couldn't seem to stick to it. Sound familiar? I needed something more than whole real food, movement I enjoyed, and prioritising my physical and emotional wellbeing. So I got help, and through that I was able to stop trying to chase perfection and instead focus on nurturing myself - body, mind and puku. I'm still on my health and wellbeing journey but no crash diets here. Maybe the odd reset but I’ve learned my health practices need to be sustainable - I’m building a lifestyle. You can too. Although, change is not linear. It won't happen overnight, so the great news is you don’t need to do everything at once! Small steps add up. Food is more than solely fuel for our bodies… eating is an experience that engages all our senses and creates lasting memories. One of my best friends from childhood is here in Sydney. I'm so incredibly thankful we get to spend time together. On Friday night we got the chance to indulged in a five-course degustation at Aria. It was amazing. Each dish brought more than just incredible flavors. It reminded us how food connects us, and food creates experiences that become unforgettable memories. It’s moments like these where food becomes a celebration of life and connection. How does food connect you to special moments in your life? I’d love to hear your favourite foodie memory.
Some might disagree… you don’t have to hit roc Some might disagree… you don’t have to hit rock bottom to create change. Life is full of crossroads, each offering a different direction. How do you decide which path to take when it comes to your relationship with your body, mind, and food? One of the tools I use with my clients is Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), where we call these decision-making moments "choice points." Like a signpost at a crossroads, will your choice take you toward where you want to be or farther away? Moving in the right direction can feel scary. It often pushes you out of your comfort zone, AND real growth happens outside that zone. This year, I committed to myself, my new health coaching business, and YOU by facing my fears and doing it anyway. A big part of that was choosing to work with @jacquisive and an inspiring bunch of boss ladies in a year-long mastermind mentorship. Self care isn't being selfish.  💝 Self care = looking after yourself so you're better able to help others 😬 Selfish = looking after yourself to the detriment of others At the time, overworking without taking breaks or working late into the night feels like it's going to help, but really it's at the detriment to our physical health and mental wellbeing. And when we're not looking after ourselves, we can't look after others. The truth is... the work will still be there tomorrow. And unless you're working in critical care, chances are no one is going to die if you don't get it done today. So how can you bring in some compassion for yourself? By setting clear boundaries and allowing yourself to step away, take a break, go for a walk, eat lunch, (without scrolling on your phone - wink) you protect your energy, increase brain power, and prevent burnout. 👉🏼👉🏼👉🏼 If you're struggling with emotional eating, this is even more important! Stress and exhaustion can trigger cravings and evening binging. Prioritizing yourself during the day will help you make better choices when it matters most. If you want your life, your health, your relationships, your body, or your self to change... you can do it alone… AND you'll get there much faster working with someone else, or with others. Coaching, mentorship, and community are so important to me as an individual and in my Holistic Health Coaching business. They not only sharpen my skills but also support my growth as a human. Most of all, they connect me with those who are doing the work - who get it. Who've been in the trenches and are now making their own path. Despite all the hardships, they keep moving, keep showing up, and keep creating the life and world they want to live in… all while bringing fun into it!!! So… what's one thing you want to change in your life? Remember, saying yes to yourself is the first step. Yesterday, I was surrounded by a group of awe-inspiring women - all on their own journeys of growth, healing, and becoming bada$$ business women. If I hadn’t said yes to myself, I wouldn’t be in rooms with powerhouse women like these. We broke through some mental blocks and connected deeply with our visions for what’s possible. It was a reminder that when we say yes to ourselves, incredible things happen. What if you said yes to yourself? Imagine how much faster you’d move toward the change you want. This may be hindering your weight loss... I don’t usually focus on weight loss… because when we take care of our health and wellbeing, our bodies naturally find balance. For some, that might mean losing fat, but the real goal is to nourish and care for our bodies, not punish them. Our mindset plays a huge role in our health. And while nutrition, movement, being in the present moment, and sleep are also important, so is connection. Mental Health Awareness Week started today in Aotearoa New Zealand, and the theme this year is community which creates connection. Surrounding yourself with supportive, uplifting people enhances mental wellbeing, reduces stress, and in turn, may lessen cravings and emotional eating. If you want to feel confident in your skin, capable of being yourself, and carefree around food, it’s not just about what you eat. How you talk to yourself AND who you're connecting with can make a huge difference. So, this week, maybe try talking to yourself as you would a friend, and reach out to others, connect, and fill your cup! It’s just as nourishing as any meal. 😘 #mhaw
Ever find people make assumptions about you? Peop Ever find people make assumptions about you? People often look at me and think they know my story. They assume I’ve always been bigger, or think I’m lazy, eat junk all the time, or never exercise. Even though YOU may know I'm actively working on my health, people still make assumptions based solely on my weight… ALL. THE. TIME. Last week, a woman said to the “smaller looking” person in my friend group, “Well, you exercise regularly”, when the ones who don’t “look” like gym bunnies are the ones who are exercising! Then someone shamed me for not doing full keto - even though I stated full keto is not good for me, or my ED voice. I always struggled with my body but most of my life I was thin or considered a "healthy size". I never fully understood how cruel people can be to those who don’t fit society’s narrow idea of “healthy". The ironic thing is, I’m actually healthier now, at a bigger size, than I ever was when I was thin - and more confident. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt when people treat me differently or make assumptions based on my appearance. Now, I'm on a mission to challenge the way society views what a “healthy” looks like. I don’t have all the answers yet, so if you have ideas, I’d love to hear them! In the meantime... I want to empower you to let go of the shame around your body and weight, and rather gain personal insight to shift what’s holding you back on your health journey. I want you to feel energised and capable of doing the things YOU WANT TO DO, and to become the person YOU WANT TO BE. And, I want you to feel understood and supported to free yourself from anxiety and guilt around food. Let’s focus on nourishing your body, rather than feeding your emotions or punishing yourself.
